Re: Think about it

Your column on 2-17-09 bringing forthwith – a little knowledge – on what transpired in the transfer of management at the University of Pangasinan is like holding your cards close to your chest. Hiding something, Jun Velasco?

The downside . . .

Massive renovations? What does it meant? Does it mean that the new owners Phinma with Chito Salazar are into something huge . . . picking up the pieces from the wake of a Cesar Duque debacle? It seems the school’s problem, is not only with termites eating on its foundation, but the school curriculum itself is in shambles.

More downside . . .

What happened, Jun Velasco? Looking back during the time of Blas Rayos, this school was predicated on the principle to give ample education to the youth of Pangasinan, who couldn’t afford an education in Manila. It was on this groundwork, that Old Man Blas gave students the chance to pursue an education to let them takd exams on credit.

It should be remembered . . . this hallowed maxim . . . was laid down before the sale to the Duques. It was believed they will follow – not only to enhance the quality of education to be bestowed on the youth, but also to make UPang . . . a gem in their educational crown.

The buckshot . . .

Is it a long time coming, Jun Velasco? Was this new administration a breath of fresh air to put new blood in an anemically infected institution? You should know! Your wife Catherine teaches there. Ask her, how does it feel to ride in a car driven by a drunk?

The broadside . . .

Farfetched you may think, though UPang is privately held, it’s funded in its existence by tuitions paid. It is every student’s right to know what’s going on. Their right to know what kind of education is being offered on the table. Their right to know this new player is not a burglar in the deep of the night.

Who the who . . .

What kind of educational conglomerate is this Phinma? How’s their batting average? Can they be compared to vultures whose only interest is the carcass, if there is a carcass left behind? In the great scheme of things, it can be construed that Phinma’s desire to bring-up a school deficit in performance, is only for business. Make money and then run like Hell. With the rise in fly-by-night schools, this unfolding scenario is not far from the truth.

The fuzzy wuzzy . . .

Is Lyceum-Northwestern U not far behind?
