Hi Ed,

I think you could not dispute that it is a fact that the Bible claims that God created the heavens and the earth regardless of whether it is true or not. So my making reference to the Bible was not conjecture. Knowing that you do not believe that God exist I had to come up with a premise that I felt we both will be in agreement and since you did not comment on the premise…I am under the assumption that we are both in agreement.

I believe that you are right in believing that the universe has a history and beginning…even the Big Bang theory from article and books I’ve read could be supported by modern day scientific findings and could be assumed to have occurred. I am glad that we have another common belief and also for convenience so I need not come up with a list making reference to specific articles, studies or statements made by Expert Scientists in this field.

Going back to the premise, it then could be stated “whatever begins to exist has a cause…the universe began to exist…therefore the universe has a cause”. In most scientific findings from studies relative to the beginning of the universe there are Scientists that suggest that this “cause” points to intelligent design. Stephen C. Meyer, PHD co-author of the book “Science and Evidence for Design in the Universe” stated in his interview with Lee Strobel author of the book “The Case for a Creator” and I quote “If it’s true that there is a beginning to the universe, as modern cosmologist now agree, then this implies a cause that transcends the universe.

If the laws of physics are fine tuned to permit life, as contemporary physicist are discovering, then perhaps there is a designer that fine-tuned them. If there’s information in the cell, as molecular biology shows, then this suggest intelligent design. To get life going in the first place would have required biological information; the implications point beyond the material realm to a prior intelligent cause.” This statement to me says that the “cause” of the beginning of the universe points to intelligent design that implies a designer. Can that designer be God?

I am not an expert on this matter, Ed. My knowledge and understanding of the universe, physics, biology and the origin of life and the arguments that comes with it are from books and articles that I’ve read to date…however, I know what I believe in ( believe me I went through a long period of doubt before getting to this point) – God exist and He loves and cares for you…He sent Jesus Christ to die on the cross to save us from our sins…our soul is eternal and will either spend eternity in heaven or hell…to be saved we have to confess our sins and accept Jesus Christ as our personal Saviour and Lord (1 John 1:9, If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.)

I will be checking out the “Battle for the Bible” by Harold Lindsell that you referenced. My offer still stands on sending you Lee Strobel’s book “The Case for a Creator” just let me know.
