Local Camelot

JUDGING from the immensity of fun and frolic that descended upon the earth last Thursday — April 30— in our beloved Dagupan, we wondered at the cost the massive feast would mean to us, denizens of Dagupan, in these hard times.

We think the blissful week was fruitful in economic benefits for our city, and in energizing the cityfolk steeped in the faith that Bangusfest was anchored on spirituality and thanksgiving for the bounty brought by Mestisang Bangus.

We pray that Mayor Al and his hardworking team-mate, Vice Mayor Belen, would be able to translate Bangusville’s multi million festival into economic and livelihood projects that will meaningfully upgrade Dagupan’s poor.

Our heart sank with the passing of fellow columnist Sosimo Pablico who, in a Punch Christmas Party, was giving us a lowdown on how to beat the effects of aging. He was 70 although he behaved sixtyish, jocund and outgoing His passing should teach us the need for preparedness and humility at all times. Death would visit like a thief in the night, when you are not looking.

So long, friend, bon voyage to God’s Country.

Over in Lingayen, not many know that at the back of the Capitol, one finds clusters of summertime sheds and stores that have made the Lingayen Gulf beach a must tourism come-on. It took the Espino administration to unravel that gold mine of eco- tourism where most past administrations have failed.

Did we not describe the Pangasinan Capitol as a local Camelot in the making?

Visitors swear they could not have found a better version in the provincial setting.

Whatever they say about Guvnor Spines whose sharp tongue often cuts one’s sensitive skin, his performance record is phenomenal. He says it’s not his mouth that is lobbying for public approval, but his service performance.

Or else, he hastens, there’d be no Pangasinan Camelot to talk about.

At the Tondaligan Blue Beach Subdivision Homeowners 3-day festival in Barangay Bonuan Gueset, a hard-hitting corps of talents organized by Kharmina Velasco was instrumental in introducing gaiety and activities that effectively rallied the members into creative and fruitful action.

The festival portends a more unified association enhanced by camaraderie, fellowship and neighborly love. Kapitan Angel is grinning from ear to ear.

Happy fiesta!

At the rate Art Lomibao tarpaulins are appearing at every strategic corner in the 4th district, there is reason to believe that it’s go, go, go no surrender for him. This is in contrast to the wait and see attitude from the De Venecia campaign light of JdV’s contention that the Arroyo government will do everything to ensure PGMA’s stay in power.

The race is on.
