Think about it
Overqualified

THERE are a few bigots, they who can’t go beyond the literal, who lament the fact that the organizers of the now world famous Bangus Festival “are creating a mountain out of a molehill, the aquatic animal called bangus.”
Why do you sing paeans to that picayune thing with thousands if not close to a million bangus fans? We simply said the festival is an expression of Dagupeños’ gratitude to Divine providence for the little thing that brought the city to the Guinness Book of Records and gathered all of them to make a show of unity in the bangusfest.

We have it on good authority that all this talk about charter change some not-so-fair people are ramming down the throats of Filipinos is simply a psy-war tactic.
They are merely confusing the people. As to why they have this temerity to confuse, mislead and obfuscate their fellowmen makes them unfit to live normally, if you ask us.
What we are saying is, there will be no Cha Cha anymore before 2010. The overwhelming majority won’t like it, as they have already put their foot down to it through a Supreme Court decision in 2007.
But the question rises: Why is Congressman Joe de V blocking it when it was he who fiercely fought for it when he was speaker?
Let’s clear the air. The new Cha Cha is designed to perpetuate incumbent officials, while the old ChaCha was for replacing the form of government into a parliamentary one.
We have a cute rejoinder to the Cha Cha proponents: pwede ba?

As we beat the deadline for this column, we bumped into Pangasinan’s most durable politician, Board Member Alfonso “Alfie” Bince Jr., who even in his late 60’s hasn’t lost his fire in provincial politics.
Our personal view is that were it not for the proverbial his logistical limitation, this UP classmate of former Supreme Court Chief Justice Larry Davide should have been a congressman or governor or even senator.
Justice Davide, our regular coffee drinking mate at the Knights of Rizal international headquarters before he was appointed to his ambassadorial post, would recall his days with classmate Alfie at UP Diliman. To Davide, Alfie is easily one of the best legal luminaries in the country.
But destiny, it seems, would keep Alfie on Pangasinan soil — albeit among the shining stars. It would be sad if in the 20l0 elections, he would play again a more minor role which in our view is an insult to his intelligence.
What’s his cup of tea this time? Well, he isn’t ambitious, as he intimated a desire to run for vice governor. Sana wala ng kalaban. He is over qualified for the job.

Until we heard him address the Dagupan health workers and the local press, Pagcor’s Efraim Genuino has the qualities of a pang-masa politician. He was lustily cheered by barangay health workers and senior citizens organized by Councilor Jess Canto when he spoke their language.
In the press conference, the gaming chief knew exactly what to say at the right time that would make news. Now we understand why Guvnor Vic Millora, KBL national chairman, is grooming him to run for president.
Another Pangasinan press guest last week was Presidential Management Staff Secretary Hermogenes Esperon who sounds like the alter ego of the President for knowing her mind. We believe he came to hobnob with the media to send a message: he will run for congress in the 6th district. He is overqualified.
