‘RIDERS’ ENDING UP VICTIMIZED

A PROMINENT hospital warned against scammers using the hospital’s name, invoking its personnel’s names to sound authoritative.

Edlyn Luna, assistant hospital administrator of Nazareth General Hospital (NGH), advised business owners, especially food and food delivery services, warning against scammers that order food using the hospital and the name of Dr. Edmund Exconde, NGH director, as the customer making fake orders.

Luna said more than P20,000 worth of foods, ranging from pizza to homecooked meals, and burgers, have been ordered by the fraudster, and directed to be delivered to the hospital, using Dr. Exconde’s name, victimizing the delivering riders, who ended up paying for the fake orders.

To assist the disillusioned rider, the hospital personnel decided to pool personal funds albeit unable to cover the entire expense.

Luna and other victimized establishments reported the incident to the police.

In their meetings with the authorities, it was determined that the same number has been victimizing and scamming others in the Visayas area.

Luna said the police are continuously on the hunt to identify the perpetrator.

Luna warned the public, especially food operators and mobile delivery service operators not to transact with persons claiming to be another person using the numbers 0926 446 2251 and 0936 755 5314.

The business service operators are advised by the police to verify orders placed to prevent scams and other fraudulent transactions from happening.

A series of incidents of fraud and scams, where perpetrators use names of prominent individuals in the province, have been reported.  (Ahikam Pasion)
