REPORT SIM CARDS OF SCAMMERS

THE National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) Region 1 advised the public to be vigilant against four scams widely sued by criminal elements today: “love scams” prevalent online.

Lawyer Ana Maningding, NTC-Region 1 legal officer, told the ‘Pantongtongan Tayo’ program of PIA Pangasinan, that “Love /Dating scams” already victimized many, particularly, elder singles, who were manipulated into believing  they found true romantic relationships, only to end up losing huge amounts of money – with no lover.

“Scammers often target older singles seeking love, particularly on platforms like Facebook. They build rapport by acting genuine until trust is established, then initiate the scam,” she said.

Maningding’s tip how to identify potential ‘love’ scams: “If someone you’re romantically involved with online consistently dodges video calls or avoids face-to-face communication, it’s a cause for concern. Never share explicit photos online, as they can be used for blackmail.

She also warned about: ‘Raffle ‘scams that falsely claim you won a prize you never entered;  ‘Bonus’ scams that promise forced payouts you did not qualify for; ‘Delivery’ scams that tell you a package that you didn’t order is on its way, and pressures to accept and pay a delivery fee.

Maningding said the minute the caller asks for One Time Passwords (OTPs), financial details, it’s a scam and warned not be believed.
