Jimmy Licauco’s disturbing report

ZAMBOANGA always excites us.

Remember our grade school song, “don’t you go, don’t you go to far Zamboanga?”

Well, we were here last week as part of our work in advancing the country’s educational system. It just occurred to us that this land of flowers hasn’t lost its beauty in spite of the negative accounts we get from Mindanao’s fraternal strife.

It’s sad that through the years the age-old problems that hamper the uninterrupted growth and development of Mindanao have not been contained.

“It’s been called the Promise Land or more appropriately the “Promised Land” — victim of unfulfilled promises. We are happy that the government has launched a number of come- from behind development projects in the area. The only nagging issue- though is the nonstop peace and order problems that negate economic progress.

The military approach is counter-productive, and we in the education field are for cultural reforms, which is deep although it takes some time.

Our item on the gubernatorial race in the province that has started rather this early has caused a lot of reactions – from outright hilarity to guarded confirmation in the light of speculations some kind of martial law will be imposed. We disagree. But no less than Congressman Joe de Venecia voiced his apprehension at the launching of his book in California last December that some people will not stop in forcing the charter change issue.

Si kuan naman, FVR, ay tumawa lang daw. But we are convinced that three serious contenders are Mayor Nani Braganza, Father Jerry Orbos, and of course, the incumbent, Gov. Amado Espino Jr. Si Kuya Joe ey? Methinks he’d concentrate on the election of his wife, Gina, who is eyeing his post.

In many occasions, Nani confirmed his plan. He even came up with his battle cry, “Pangasi-nani.” A veteran politician commented Nani should not be taken for granted. He has the logistics, political lineage, achievements. And he wants Espino out of Urduja. Malaking bagay yong may galit na lumalaban. Some people are connecting what happened to Mayor Nestor Pulido to the Espino-Braganza cold war. It’s about to become an open war, mind you.

A certain political analyst and aleading Rotary leader in Eastern Pangasinan sounds elusive but confirms that the Orboses – Oscar and Father Jerry – will be key players in the 20l0 elections. Fr. Jerry, we heard will try to do a Panlilio in Pangasinan. Rumors have it that they are being backed by a top financial mogul. So there, the fight is on.

We came across a column article by one of the country’s famous seers and mind reader, the psychic scholar Jimmy Licauco, who says that some time in 20l2, the solar system will drastically reorder itself and, as a result, will cause cataclysmic changes in the galaxy.

The authorities Jimmy quoted had tall credentials, and their reports showed that there is a high degree of serious scholarship in their findings.

Jimmy says they are not saying that the end of the world is near. We have heard about that more than once before. But if more than half the world will die because of this climactic phenomenon, then it is time the citizens of the world should feel alarmed.

One of the scientists suggested prayers. And yet he ended his article with a heave of sadness with these words, “We are through.”

What, he is through? God forbid!
