Re: No Fil-Am future US president

Please don’t denigrate the
Fil-Ams by stereotyping. There are many Filipinos being elected into public office. Union City, Calif. has a large Filipino community who are heavily involved in politics. Same on the the national front. During the Bush administration, White House Senior Advisor Carl Rove’s senior aid was Susan Bonzon Ralston, an American born Fil-Am, who’s mother still lives in Quezon City. Filipinos, unlike many of the Black Obama backers have been instilled with the Pinoy work and religious ethics. In states, like Texas and Louisiana where Blacks had been ostracize Filipinos were not. In Louisiana they are classified in the same category as Whites.

During the early 1940′s Filipinos in California were not allowed to vote, owns property, or even marry outside of their race. The Filipinos did not form into gangs, riot, or bring attention to themselves by having protest marches. No, the did it by hard work, We assimilated into the American Culture by showing the Whites that although we may have been shorter in height or have darker complexion we were no different than them, with the same American dream.

I grew up in Oakland at a time when there were few Filipinos in the city. You know what? My best friends were White and the girls I danced with (and had crushes on) were White. There was no difference. It was not until idiots like “Rev.” Jesse Jackson and other bigots of his likes started to instigate their hate Whites campaign that race became the issue it is today. I put the first minority U.S. president in the same category as the hate White baiters. Instead of extoling the things that Martin Luther King preached, they are doing the opposite. By their rhetoric they are have brought about racial intolerance not only to the Blacks but also to the Filipinos and others of the minority races.

Re: No Fil-Am future US president

What a difference in a day make for Fil-Ams in America? Listening to my relatives who came before me is like night and day. I still remember that my dad when he was in the US Navy could only be a cook for the 7th Fleet admiral. Now my cousins are officers in John Paul Jones navy. When people were telling me that to make Chief in US Air Force for Fil-Am needs one to pass the hole of the needle. Ha, ha, ha we all made it.

Was very satisfying when the crew of Air Force one became white milk to chocolate during Clinton presidency. It was like Robinson playing for the majors in his time. Yes time was a changing for Fil-Ams. Gives us comfort when we see them in sports, entertainment, cutting edge industry, and readily going back to Pinas and embracing it as land of their blood. We even have adopted son like Tim Tebow putting up hospital in Mindanao.

Our very own Apl de Ap constantly giving out his hard earned $$$ for the various calamities. Nowadays it is nice to turn on the TV and watch Super Bowl and see our very own Fil-Am Bruno Mars and currently follow the winter games with our Fil Am speed skater. Oh yeah we will change the White House when a Fil-Am finally makes it there.
