4 meat vendors selling hot chicken arrested

MANGATAREM–Four meat vendors were arrested Thursday for illegal shipment and selling of hot meat of chicken and pork, the Mangatarem police reported.

Rommel Rosario, 24; Joselito Gabotin, 40; Mark Buenconsejo, 31; and Edmar Buenconsejo, all of Barangay Malibong, Urbiztondo, were arrested while in the act of selling meat inside the public plaza of Mangatarem without corresponding permits.

They were arrested by joint elements of BAI of the Department of Agriculture led by Juanito Jazmin. Municipal Agriculture Officer, Municipal Meat Inspector led by Marlou Montoya, Mangatarem Meat Vendors Association president Estrella Vergara and the local police.

Mangatarem is the border town of Pangasinan with Tarlac where a quarantine station and checkpoint is located to intercept those bringing chicken, fowls, birds and their bi-products believed infected by avian flu virus.

The arrested suspects were in the act of selling meat products on board a motorcycle fitted with a livestock carrier called “garong” without business permit from the Municipal Treasurer Office here, Shipping Permit and Health Certificate as required by BAI.

The four were also accused of allegedly mishandling meat products.

Confiscated from the possession, control and custody of the suspects were four styro foam boxes containing assorted meat and fish products.

The suspects and the confiscated items were turned over to the office of the Meat Inspector of the town for investigation and disposition. (Leoanrdo Micua)
