Mangaldan police say ‘kidnapping’ a hoax

MANGALDAN—The Mangaldan Police Station (MPS) officially closed the investigation of the reported kidnapping of a minor in the town and ruled it was a hoax.

Supt. Jackie Candelario, chief of MPS, said the investigation showed the “victim”,  concocted the circumstances behind her claimed “kidnapping” and her “escape.”

Candelario said a resident here reported her niece as missing then the “victim” surfaced three days later, who claimed she was a victim of kidnapping.

The minor, whose identity was secured, claimed she was on her way to her school, Mangaldan National High School (MNHS) when a van stopped and two men pulled her inside.

“In her statement, she said she tried to fight with the suspects but the commotion stopped when they put a handkerchief on her face. When she woke up, they were already in Metro Manila”, said Candelario.

She claimed she was able to escape when they reached Cubao and took the opportunity to run away when the van’s door was left half-opened and proceeded to her uncle’s house.

Candelario said MPS’ subsequent investigation showed while the existence of the described van was true, it was verified to have been in Zambales.

Then the footages of the closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras in the area where she was allegedly abducted refuted her claims.

While the minor has not admitted to her false claim, her guardians accepted the results and the conclusion that the kidnapping never happened.

The police said the minor will be endorsed to the social worker in the town. (Hilda Austria)
