CALASIAO— Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) predicts that Pangasinan’s population will soon reach the 3 million mark and this will be confirmed by the data that will be gathered by PSA Pangasinan office.

The data will be culled from responses from households in the province during the  mid-decade population census that kicked off last August 10 and scheduled to conclude on September 6.

Acting provincial statistics officer Edgar Norberte said, his office based in Calasiao town, hired a total of 2,503 census enumerators, 639 team supervisors, and 146 area supervisors for this year’s census.

Prior the census, the enumerators underwent a six-day training on the concept of census, mapping of houses and strategies on how to deal with households that refuse to be counted, said Norberte.

The census results will be made public through a proclamation by the President by the end of December this year.

The province, which has a total population of 2.8 million as of May 1, 2010, has an average annual population growth rate of 1. 34 percent based on the population count in 2000 to 2010.

Reference point of the census enumeration is at 12:01 a.m. of August 1, 2015, meaning those born beyond and those who died before the reference point are not included in the population census.

The household head or the family member, who is not less than 15 years old, shall be asked to accomplish the census forms. (Johanne Macob/PIA)
