SP hails USNS Mercy Mission

LINGAYEN– The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) expressed its profoundest gratitude and appreciation to the United States Navy for the conduct of a United States Naval Ship (USNS) Mercy Mission in the province of Pangasinan last August 10-12.

Approved during the August 17-regular session, Provincial Resolution No. 1513-2015 hailed the US navy team, under the leadership of Captain Brian Delamont, mission deputy commander, for its humanitarian and civic services rendered in the province.

“One need not be a Filipino to help the people in the Philippine countryside; but, the members of the USNS Mercy Team, comprising mostly of American/foreign nationals, have proven their worth to the people of Pangasinan,” cited the resolution.


The US Navy Pacific Partnership 2015 was conducted in Pangasinan for a series of humanitarian and civic mission wherein the USNS Mercy assisted by a government hospital, and its components, and the provincial government of Pangasinan, have successfully accomplished its mission.

Accomplished were: humanitarian aid and disaster relief; public health diseases symposium focused on tuberculosis (TB), leprosy, leptospirosis, and dengue; environmental sanitation engagement site inspection among identified business establishments; mobile blood donation activity; anti-TB drive; preparation for cleft palate surgery; regional animal disease diagnostic laboratory, demonstration and rapid rabies detection test; demonstration of chemical castration in dogs zeuterin; and two-day basic life support training in Subic Bay, Olongapo City where Pangasinan Provincial Health Office medical and hospital staff participated.

The resolution was sponsored by SP members Raul Sison and Generoso Tulagan Jr., and co-authored by all SP members. (Johanne R. Macob)
