Hold-up man nabbed, but loot was missing

SAN CARLOS CITY — A puto maker who held up a female pawnshop appraiser and carted away P50,000 cash tried to make a run for it but failed.

After a brief chase, fifty-year-old Roque Navarro, a resident of Barangay Quezon, was collared and arrested by a police patrolman who responded to the victim’s call for help.

The robbery was staged when the victim, identified as Gemma Calimlim, 47, of Dagupan City, was about to open the Ang Angco Pawnshop on Barangay Rizal this city Thursday morning.

He threatened her with a bladed weapon and forced her to turn over the cash stored in the shop.

Calimlim shouted for help soon as Navarro ran with his loot, prompting concerned bystanders and a policeman on patrol to chase the suspect who was eventually cornered inside a popular fast food chain on Barangay Roxas.

PSSupt. Charlie Umayam, OIC -police chief, said recovered from the suspect was one black bonnet, a sweatshirt with hood, and a 13-inch long bladed weapon but the stolen cash was missing.
