THE Bangus Cuisine International Showcase, or Bangusine, a new event in this year’s Bangus Festival, has so far attracted 16 participants, including amateur cooks from Japan who will showcase milkfish Japanese-style.

City Nutrition Officer Leah L. Aquino, director/coordinator of the International Cook Fest chaired by lawyer and The PUNCH columnist Gonzalo T. Duque, said registration of interested participants is still open.

Aquino, hoping that more foreigners staying in the country will sign up, especially called on local and foreign students studying in the city to join.

Other confirmed entries are from India and Germany.

JAPANESE VOLUNTEERS

The contenders from Japan, Tazu Hamada, Shinji Okumura and Shigeru Tsunashima, recently met with Mayor Belen T. Fernandez to signify their interest to join the cookfest to showcase their native cuisines using the locally-produced milkfish.

Hamada promised that Dagupeños will be thrilled to sample their dishes, which will include sushi bangus.

The Japanese participants are members of the Nippon Skilled Volunteers Association, a non-governmental, non-profit  organization from Japan which recruits and assists Japanese senior citizens who want to serve as volunteers in developing countries in Southeast Asia.

A dry run of the Bangusine will be held on March 21 at the newly-opened Hotel Le Duc in Barangay Tapuac. (CIO)
