40 firearms, 20 bladed weapons confiscated

BARANGAY ELECTION GUN BAN

LINGAYEN—The Pangasinan Police Office (PPO) confiscated 40 firearms and 20 bladed weapons across the province during the implementation of the nationwide gun ban from September 28 to November 12 in line with the barangay election period.

The office of Senior Supt. Marlou Chan, provincial police director, reported that of the seized firearms,19 were pistols, six revolvers, nine rifles and six sumpak (improvised weapon).

Other deadly weapons confiscated were one firearm replica, 20 bladed or pointed weapons, one grenade, 792 ammunitions and 49 magazines.

Several were arrested for illegal possession, including 43 civilians, two policemen, one from the Armed Forces of the Philippines, four government officials and two security guards.

Cases had been filed against those arrested.

The confiscation and arrests were accomplished through checkpoints, police operations, service of search warrant and warrant of arrest and other police response.—Eva Visperas
