BOLINAO- It’s now three minus one.

1st District Rep. Arthur Celeste has withdrawn his endorsement of the proposal to make changes in the distribution of towns within the province’s district.

Celeste, who initially backed the bill jointly filed by 2nd District Rep. Victor Agbayani and 3rd District Rep. Rachel Arenas, said his constituents expressed their “overwhelming objection” to the proposal.

Under the proposed bill, the 1st District towns of Infanta, Dasol, Burgos and Mabini are to be moved to the 2nd District with Mangatarem, Bugallon, Aguilar and Basista.

Celeste said he gave his conditional support to the proposal in the beginning as this could mean additional benefits to the province with the creation of one or more new districts.

“So I hope my two colleagues will also understand that I have to support the concerns of my people in the first district,” Celeste said.

Pangasinan currently has six congressional districts with an average population of 250,000 each, based on the 2007 census. #
