THE list of choices has just become longer.

While the spotlight for the governorship race has been focused on prominent political personalities, two little known wannabes have beat everyone else in the filing of a certificate of candidacies (COC) at the Commission on Elections provincial office in Dagupan City.

Lawyer Reddy Balarbar, provincial elections supervisor, said the early birds  are Bartolome Padilla alias Doming, 71, of barangay Acop, Rosales and Modesto “Ding” Capulong, 75, of barangay Maasin, Mangaldan.

Padilla listed his occupation as farmer while Capulong said he is a public relations officer of the Knights of Columbus and is a fishpond owner.

The two will be facing big names eyeing the gubernatorial seat including outgoing Vice Governor Oscar Lambino, who will be the standard bearer for the ruling Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrat party; Dr. Jamie Eloise Agbayani, wife of Governor Victor Agbayani; second district Rep. Amado Espino Jr.; and possibly Under-secretary for Local Governance Antonio Villar Jr.

Capulong, who filed his candidacy Monday, told local reporters confidently that he will “erase them all”. He said he is running for governor because “it is the will of God”.–EVA
