Millora wins National Bowling Invitational in Dagupan

DAGUPAN City’s local bowlers outclassed the visitors in the 19th DATBI-CSI National Bowling Tour Invitational Open Championship held at CSI the City Mall from April 16 to 21 as part of the Dagupan Bangus Festival.

Twenty-six year old Diosa Millora, an architect from Aguilar town, playing for the host Dagupan Tenpin Bowling Inc. won back to back in the  Mixed Masters and Mixed Classified Masters divisions to bring home P110,000 in cash prizes to emerge as the best bowler in the tournament.

She earned P60,000 as champion in the Mixed Masters, and another P50,000 as champion in the Mixed Classified Masters in a virtual domination of the tournament by DATBI bowlers.

Mayor Belen Fernandez and event chairman Karlos Reyna IV awarded the cash prizes and trophies to all the winners at the end of the tournament.

Tournament Director Mike Sim said there were 112  top bowlers from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao who saw action in the six-day tournament sanctioned by the Philippine Bowing Federation headed by Atty. Ed Santos.

Millora emerged winner in the twice -to-beat format final and won in both, 253 and 250, to win the Mix Masters championship against teammate Matt Barredo of Dagupan City, who scored 229 and 239. Barredo finished first runner-up.

She earned her ticket to the final when she figured in step-ladder matches against fellow DATBI players Barredo, Marwin Santiago, also of DATBI, and James Young of Davao, who wound up second runner-up. Santiago is third runner-up.

Young won in the first match when he scored 225 but Diosa came back in  the second match by scoring 300 to arrange a showdown with Barredo in the final.

Completing the list of winners in the Mixed Masters Division, Sadiua of TBAM was 4th runner-up; Collins Jose of TBAM, 5th runner up was Sugbu Aui Padawan, 6th runner-up; and Garrick Sarito, 7th runner-up.

In the Mixed Classified Masters, Millora was followed by Marwin Santiago, of DATBI, (first runner-up) and their teammates Mike Sim (second runner up); and Oscar Ramirez (third runner up).

The winner in Mixed Senior Masters was George Manoso of SLTBA who brought home P40,000 cash prize, while DATBI’s George Wilson was 1st runner-up, Ray Santos of USBC, 2nd  runner-up;  and Nestor Ranido of Sugbo, 3rd  runner-up. (Leonardo Micua)
