Dagupeña karate jin clinches gold in SEA tourney

TWENTY-one-year-old Arianne Brito brought honor and glory to Dagupan City after winning the gold in Individual U21 Female Kumite +68kg during the recently concluded 11th South East Asian Karate Federation (SEAKF) Championships last April 24-26 in Bangkok, Thailand.

Brito took down Mirza Amirah  Faizal of Malaysia, 4-0, in the final tiff of the female U21 kumite class and outclassed Indonesia’s Reyva Sambenthiro in the semi-final match, 3-2, to preserve her undefeated record in the tourney with three wins and no loss.

The homegrown karate champion, who studies at Trinity University of Asia, is currently taking up a nursing degree and is an active member of the Philippine National Karate Pool since 2022 under the mentorship of foreign head coach Levent Aydemir.

Brito began her karate journey in the Dagupan City-based Filipinas Wado Ryu Karatedo led by Dr. Alejandro Vasquez in 2011.

Meanwhile, the Philippine Karate Team finished  4th place overall with six gold podium finishes in the three-day SEA competition. (Kim Gealogo)
