UL Tigers roll past BCP, earn playoff spot in NCRAA tourney

THE University of Luzon Golden Tigers triumphed over host Bestlink College of the Philippines in a high-scoring duel, 112-106, in the 30th season of NCRAA basketball tournament last April 26 held at the Bestlink gymnasium in Novaliches, Quezon City.

Golden Tigers’ Jhomel Sansano erupted with a season-high 46 points on 16-of-25 field goal shooting, 10 rebounds, five assists and drained all six  free throws down the stretch with one minute and 48 seconds remaining in the fourth period, and took control of the game.

Datu Borja posted 17 points while Ventax Begenio produced a double-double stat line with 10 points and 10 rebounds for the UL’s fourth victory of the tournament.

Joshua Vidal collected 25 points, eight rebounds added to the 17-point output of Julito Estoya to lead BCP’s scoring department under coach Edwin Puno.

UL head coach Byron Vidal said the team focused on finishing under the basket as its offensive arsenal and lifted ball pressure for their defensive scheme.

With their win against BCP, the eight-seeded Golden Tigers earned a ticket to the playoff rounds with a win-loss record of 4-5. (Kim Gealogo)
