Re: Infanta fishermen want free and total access

Chinese have kept all boats but their own out of Panatag or the Scarborough Shoal since 2012. An artificial island there would leave the Philippines vulnerable to any attack the Chinese may launch. Yes, Duterte has gone to China and a couple of fishing boats were allowed in the area. If the Chinese were to close off the area there would be nothing Duterte could do about it. He kicked out the U.S. from the Philippines and its waters. He wants nothing to do with any military exercises by any of the Asian Alliances.. Who will he turn to? Nationalism is a wonderful thing. Nationalism means looking out for you people. If Duterte is trying burn the candle on both ends, sorry that won’t work. The candle will not produce much more light and it will burn twice as fast. Aside from the Asian military alliance. Should a super typhoon with the magnitude of Yolanda hit will there be immediate medical and other aid available. America was number one in medical, financial and other aid when Yolanda struck. China was number 37. How soon people forget. Much of the aid to Yolanda victims was in Duterte’s part of the country. He didn’t say “go to hell” to America then. If another calamity strikes again and aid is needed let’s hope the people in the USA doesn’t deter them from helping despite the utterance of a pathetic, some call psychotic, little man.

China with its vast land and two billion people will not bring wealth or employment to the Philippines but Duterte has succeeded in borrowing billions from China, loans that will be due after he leaves office. The next president will have an immense job undoing the killings the has brought shame to the country and bring back confidence in the country that has been lost by many international investors.

The Philippines economy was at a pace to exceed 6 percent annual growth, one of the highest growth worldwide. Now Japan is having second thoughts on increasing investments in the Philippines. The United States, formerly the Philippines closes ally, is also having second thought on future investment. The call centers are a main source of high paying jobs. In today’s technological word those jobs could relocate elsewhere overnight. Today U.S. companies have call centers scattered throughout the world. There are call centers in the U.S. and with the right incentive by the U.S. Government the call centers in the Philippines will disappear.

I don’t think Duterte has thought out what he is doing or he has chosen very incompetent aides to assist him. The other day he claims God talked to him. He may have been delusional, God the Father nor his Son Jesus does not condone mass killing, God (Yaweh) may have in the old testament but today we live as Jesus taught us, “Forgive them for they no not what the do.”
