Unrequited Love
Dear Editor:
Please allow me to deny very strongly text messages that reached you identifying me as owner-operator of a fish pen beside the Dawel bridge at Barangay Pantal (Arellano) Dagupan City, which Mayor Belen Fernandez’s Bantay Ilog crew demolished last Sunday, March 22, 2015.
The truth is, IT WAS NOT A FISH PEN; it was a 5m x 5m FISH CAGE structure stocked with 150 Lapu-Lapu fingerlings in front of the fishpond I am operating — that they dismantled.
I caused the fish cage’s construction last year for the love of our mayor and to make it a “model” for her High-Value-Fish-Culture in a Fish Cage.
I could not understand why her boys arrogantly dismantled it, even if it was for the development of high value fish that does not cause water pollution because no commercial feeds were used and which is in line with her much-talked-about Livelihood Program.
If that fish cage structure stocked with high-value fingerlings was dismantled because it is illegal, then why are the massive fish pens found in Barangays Pugaro, Salapingao, Lomboy, Bonuan Gueset, Calmay, Talahib, Carael and Lucao were spared?
