Re: Belen’s heritage

My mistake. There are so many “Fernandez” in the Dagupan City Council I wasn’t sure who was related to whom. I do know that from the first Fernandez who was mayor it seems to me that the voters in the city vote by name recognition. I guess I thought that the two last Fernandez mayors had two things in common.
1 They are power hungry, and
2 They know nothing about running a city of over 150,000.

I find it amusing that when one goes to the Official Pangasinan web page then click on Dagupan the first picture shown is the Dawel River Cruise, the first thing she stopped probably because it was the brainchild of Former Mayor Fernandez.

I admit that the blood relationship of the name fooled me because of the stupidity and arrogance in running the city by both the Fernandez’s. I mistakenly assumed they were of the same ilk and bloodline.

Editor:  FYI Edwin: I’m afraid you are mistaken as well on the facts about the Dawel River Cruise. It was not stopped by Mayor Belen. The boats were pulled out by employees of former Mayor Benlie Lim’s Magic Group under cover of darkness even  before she took her oath.  Check out our news reports:

2) http://punch.dagupan.com/articles/news/2013/06/river-cruise-boats-owned-by-bsl-says-mata/

The boats were never returned. Mayor Belen said the river cruise will be restored soon as the city acquires new boats through donation or public bidding.
