Re: Seafood Processing Plant eyes HACCP accreditation
The fish processing plant is in operation. The plant is now serving many small international exporters. The voters should remember that had it not been for Mayor Lim that plant may have remained closed. Another Fernandez who proceeded Mayor Lim screwed up everything connected with the plant, from his inability to oust the squatters from Bgy. Russia to screwing up the paperwork that kept the plant from being opened until Benjamin Lim fixed up the problem. Also, as I remember it, Her Highness Belen was against Mayor Lim’s action, calling it illegal. Whether it was illegal(in her mind)or not it is now moot. The plant is now in operating giving the city much needed jobs and revenue. Belen Fernandez should be named the city’s official gadfly.
In order to survive a city must be business friendly. Mayor Lim is that. No matter how much one’s heart bleeds for the needy, every social program requires money and the government can only acquire that money through taxation. When a business is over-taxed it has only a few options. It can lay off worker, close the business or move to places with less taxes. None of which is good for the city.
The people here in California are now learning that. Wealthy people and businesses are moving out of the state to more tax friendly states. The California’s income taxes are on a sliding scale starting at about 15 per cent, sales taxes start at 8 percent (in Union City it is over 10 percent), property tax start at 2 percent, increasing by 1 percent yearly e.g., $3,000+ per year on a house valued at $600,000. Add all the other taxes and those who work are left virtually with nothing. Only those on who are welfare recipients, many who refuse to work, live on the generous government handouts and pay no taxes. Oh, yeah, the “rich” move their money where the government cannot touch it.
Remember, when you vote, vote for the person who is business friendly and from what I have heard from many of my associates is that the present mayor, Benjamin S. Lim, is that person. Keep in mind businesses pay taxes the government can only spend it.
In closing to quote Thomas Jefferson, “A government big enough to give you everything you want is also strong enough to take everything you have.”
