With due respect to Gonz T. Duque’s ‘Playing With Fire’, he may have valid and credible reasons for calling the former speaker the “architect” of the Rainbow Coalition. The Dagupan City native — a power during his time and even now — deserves the credit. It’s not a big deal.

The two-word term always comes into play when politicians are posturing, maneuvering and even bragging among themselves to show off power and influence in the playing field.

However, in my readings of politics — my favorite hobbies are reading, tinkering with the (piano) ivory — the term Rainbow Coalition is synonymous to Rev Jessie Jackson’s name, one of most respected political activists in the US.

If disagreeing with Gonz’s views constitutes an open “defiance” of the truth, let it be. My belief that it was the reverend who coined the phrase may be impugned by the so-called “knowledgeable” to cushion the impact brought about by the opposing views. But, I don’t care. History will not haunt me either.

The good thing is, the word “coalition” is not found in the immortalized song “Over the Rainbow”. It preempts others from claiming authorship.
