Dr Roland Mejia, director of the Region I Medical Center (R1MC) mulling a legal action against a national television for leveling the government-owned hospital “dugyot“?
Coming from no less than a public servant, it’s a foolish move to say the least.
We have to disabuse the mind of the good director that the press (media) is the “fourth” branch of the government. As the ear and eye of the gullible public, its role is to expose the excesses of corrupt public servants. He has to exhume his college notes in political science and review the meaning of “checks and balances”.
If he can’t stand the heat “thrown” at him, his only recourse is to get out. Onion skin government personnel who curtail freedom of expression have no place in an environment where there is a flow of constructive criticisms.
He will be at the receiving end if he keeps quarrelling with the media.
