Re: Original Rainbow Coalition

The origin of these words would be flat out lie, if the attribution is given to Jose De Venecia himself.

Furthermore, it couldn’t be claimed coming from the ghettos of the south side of Chicago – the mouth of the biggest charlatan of ’em all, the rabble-rouser and opportunist extraordinaire … Jesse Jackson.

THE GAME OF THE NAME . . .

When America entered “the war to end all wars” in 1917, the country was not ready. The immediate concern was to organize an army.

The only way to quickly address the situation, was to federalized the National Guard troops. So, War Secretary Newton Baker authorized the creation of a … division … to plug the vacuum within.

THE RAINBOW DIVISION . . .

Then Major Douglas MacArthur, assigned to the Department of War, was … CREDITED … with the name.
With the authorization enforced, the best regiments were taken from the 26 different states and, the District of Columbia.

Douglas MacArthur listening close by replied; “Fine, that will stretch over the whole country like a …. rainbow.”

The 42nd Infantry Division – was known the … Rainbow Division … and Brigadier General Douglas MacArthur became the general commanding on November 10, 1918, and saw action in several bloody battles in France, and Meuse-Argonne was the most notable.

The rest is history!
