BSL stays home

How short the memories of people are, especially when politics are concerned. Here, we have Her Royal Highness Belen traveling to the U.S. touting Dagupan’s bangus. I bet she never mentioned that Dagupan City, which is considersed the world’s milkfish capital, received that distinction due to Mayor Lim’s efforts in 2002 promoting the fish with the first Bangus Festival. Incidentally, the festivals have generated not only much needed money to the city coffers but also pride in its citizens.
During this junket has her Ladyship mentioned what has happened in the city since her cohort, Al (another) Fernandez, was booted out of office? The fish processing plant opened, although later closed temporarily because of ignorance of the laws by then Mayor Fernandez, the rivers have been cleared of illegal fish ponds, river cruises to bring in more tourists is being tried and now the good mayor is in the process of making Dagupan not only “The Bangus Capital of World” but also “The Oyster Capital of the World.”
The mayor doesn’t have to spend tax money on expensive junkets presumably to extoll the qualities of Dagupan Bangus, he is staying at home doing what he was elected to do, make Dagupan a city to be proud of.
Also, I would like the Punch to be more fair in its reporting of city politics (impossible?.) Pictures of the vice mayor fill the computer screen (no pun intended) in every Sunday Punch edition. Mention of projects proposed by Mayor Lim are seldom reported, only those opposed by Her Majesty. Let the international readers learn of the mayor’s agenda, such as the oysters plan and other projects he has proposed instead of just being a mouthpiece for Belen Fernandez. The news media doesn’t have to resort to overt lies to show its bias, it can do this by selectively omitting what it chooses to print.
(Editor’s Note: You seem to be overly fascinated with the vice mayor’s activities you overlook the stories we print about the mayor. If there are not enough positive stories about him, you should write Mayor Lim to be accessible to the PUNCH. Or at least direct his staff to submit such stories that you are missing and yes…on time.)
