Monumental lapse in judgment

The smartass of a driver who took more than a quarter of a million pesos from Jun Velasco his hard-earned moolah, and calling him crazy, is an overstatement. To claim this guy like a member of the family borders on . . . idiocy.
To begin with on what he should have done, to protect his money from prying eyes is to hold his ATM card close to his chest … meaning … everything should be memorized relating to his account.
But, he didn’t do that! It was a monumental lapse in judgment, when he uploaded his PIN – a secret numeric password shared by him and the system which is the bank – in his cell phone, to have an easy access in case he would make withdrawals, a move he will regret the rest of his life.
The GSM mobile phone . . . .
In this part of the world, we don’t use phones that allow the user to enter a PIN . . . between 10 letters and two digits, and recorded in the SIM card. That’s the flaw in the Philippine banking system in their ignorance on financial safeguards, permit its usage.
The trust that never was . . .
What’s bothering is how long it took Supsupin to gain the Velascos’ confidence. A recommendee of Danny Panelo, a confidante of good standing, it did not take much for Jun Velasco to have faith in him. He probably got him holding his cell phone and ATM card for safekeeping.
Vanity run amok . . .
Was hiring Supsupin, a man-Friday, an utmost necessity? That you can’t drive your car? Or, it was an act like any Pinoy does, to show how high Jun Velasco managed to reach.
