Delicadeza no longer the norm

Editor Ermin’s column about kulo is a must-reading material for artists with different persuasion. It’s not a thesis, a position or a term paper but a scholarly-written masterpiece. A well-presented argument in defense of a real art, it has all the elements of dissertation.

Trying-hard doctoral students, take note.

Self-proclaimed visual artist Mideo “Alanganin” Cruz who is so desperate for publicity used art to shield himself from the preying eyes of the gullible public — a gamble he did. He has nowhere to go to justify the “morality” of his word except to his ilk who shared his polluted vision.

The Cultural Center of the Philippines can’t escape the blame heaped on them for allowing the exhibition and display of the blasphemous material. A call for the mass resignation of the CCP personnel by the alarmed public, clergy and lawmakers for being recreant in the their duties has been ignored. Invoking what they called “Freedom of Expression”, they are staying put.

It seems that delicadeza is no longer the norm in government service. It has lost its meaning. Being presidential appointees, the CCP board serves at the pleasure of the chief executive. Legally, they are right. That’s between them and the president. But when delicadeza becomes the battle cry of a crusade “to correct what is wrong”, they have got to go.

Public clamor demands no apology.
