Re: Playing with Fire
Thank you for your very kinds words. Yes I offered myself as a candidate for the PSU Presidency in 2007 upon the plea of many reform minded students, faculty members, and political leaders of Pangasinan. As a full-blooded Pangasinense (my mother is from Tayug & San Nicolas; my father is from Bayambang) I felt it was my responsibility to offer myself even if it meant that I will leave the comforts of Metro Manila, my political consultancies, and my television analysis.
Unfortunately, the PSU BOR, for reasons that only they knew, set aside the recommendations of the Search Committee (which was created by the Board to conduct the search and rank the candidates) that ranked me #1 (88% rating); Zosimo Battad #2 (82%), and Estira last (62% if I remember right) and chose Estira.
It is funny but my name has now been dragged into the investigations of corruption by the Sanguniang Panlalawigan because allegedly, BM Shahani is spearheading the investigation since I was the choice of former President Ramos and that I want to be appointed.
I want to put it on record that I am not interested in becoming PSU President. I am very happy being the VP for Public Affairs of the University of the Philippines, doing political commentaries in the media, and doing my consultancies.
The issues raised by sectors in the PSU are legitimate and I urge everyone to focus on these issues rather than engage in squid tactics using my name.
Again, thank you for your warm comments and I hope I can help Pangasinan in other ways.
