Re: SP overrides mayor’s 2 vetoes
It could have been foretold that Mayor Lim’s veto regarding the tricycles would be overridden. As long as there is a Fernandez in the city council NO mayor will succeed with any prudent accomplishment if that mayor is from an opposition party.
Since the end of the WWII the name of Fernandez has been synonymous with Dagupan history. Voters have voted for the name without thinking of the consequences of their vote. A present day example of this is Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez, Majority Floor Leader Maybelyn De la Cruz Fernandez and Sangguniang Kabataan president Carlo Fernandez. Fernandez, Fernandez and Fernandez.
Mayor Lim was an exception when he beat Mayor Al because, as a mayor, Fernandez was weak, indecisive and without the intestinal fortitude to carry out the mandate of the majority of the electorate. To cite just one example, Sitio Russia. His failure to act in a timely manner almost cost the city the fish processing plant and hundred of jobs.
Until the voters vote for substance instead of the name, politics will always be “deja vu” in Dagupan.
