Surveys not always reliable

During this election campaign poll survey reports dominate the media. They indicate that certain candidates have an edge over the others.

Even setting political leaders are rated by the surveys. It’s reported that a certain politician has a “-53 approval rating”.

We are reminded of the famous survey conducted by Pontius Pilate (Matthew 27:11-26). Under pressure from the religious leaders, Pilate was to decide over the conviction of Jesus. Since Pilate believed that Jesus was innocent of the charges, he surveyed the people who should be freed: Jesus or Barabbas?

Overwhelmingly, maybe 99.99%, the people shouted Barabbas. Obviously, Jesus’ popularity rating was very low and negative. So Jesus was convicted and crucified.

Poll surveys are not always reliable! Instead of always trusting them, individually let’s make up our minds through prayer and serious evaluation of the issues who among the politicians are to be elected and remain in power.
