Clean and honest leadership

I was in Pangasinan the day after the election. It was amazing to hear so many stories about the experiences of our “kababayans” regarding the political campaigns and how they chose their government leaders. It took me by surprise because most of them said they wanted a change and that they had to compare the performances of the candidates.

The ordinary citizens wanted the change, I guess they were tired of politicians whose “pangako was napako”. To my surprise, some people I talked to told me that the “pakurong” from the candidates did not change their minds. They were determined to choose who they think can make good changes. They elected leaders based on performance. Wow, I hope so.

I hope the elected leaders will learn their lessons that their positions are not permanent. This is a wake-up call to all politicians. You better perform well after you are elected; otherwise there will be no chance the second time around.

In Dagupan, the most that I heard why they had to change their leader was their concern about the environmental neglect and I am not surprised.

I mentioned in my previous posting about my concerns and how the leaders allowed the city environment to deteriorate. People said “Marotak to ciudad”. No one that I talked to even mentioned about their hardship in life, instead they said “marutak tan magulo so ciudad”. This tells me that the people are finally realizing that it’s about time to choose a good leader wisely. I hope the politicians will learn their lessons. Like the saying goes” You can fool the people one or two times, but you can’t fool them all the time”.

The voters do not like unfulfilled and empty promises. So politicians, people are watching on how well you perform. You better make good on your promises or else…

My message to the citizens of our beloved Dagupan City is “keep your eyes and ears open and phase out the corrupt and undesirable politicians.

Mr. Lim, although there were accusations about you in the past when you were a Mayor regarding illegal government transactions, the people gave you another chance to lead the city.

My message to you is to do a good job this time and keep a clean and honest leadership in the city.
