“Also, ALL U.S. Navy aircraft carriers, cruisers, submarines, and some destroyers that have been built over the last four decades are nuclear powered. When have you heard of a nuclear powered ship having a meltdown?”
I urge you to check the Russian nuclear submarine KURSK whose fate sank on the Barents Sea on August 12, 2000 before you make such absurd statements. The submarine sank with its full crew still aboard. They desperately pleaded for help but the situation is highly volatile and dangerous, they were pronounced expendable.
There were several nuclear plants disaster throughout history, Chernobyl and Three Mile Island to name a few, who served as lessons that not all big things comes great results. In those disasters countless lives have been lost. Wide expanse of land were unfit for human habitat, more so for cultivation.
If a nuclear disaster of this magnitude occurred in Pangasinan, it will completely wipe out the population of our beloved province at the very least.
There are several alternatives in developing power plants for Pangasinan that pose less threat. There is SOLAR, WIND and many others… Let’s exploit these alternatives and not be corrupted by politicians who has nothing to gain but for their own benefits.
Let’s make our beloved Pangasinan the haven for clean and safe living. Let’s not make Pangasinan another KURSK!
