Re: Better option than nuclear
Mr. Sobrepenia,
One of the biggest proponents of wind-powered energy was U.S. Congressman Robert Kennedy Jr. He was one of the biggest supporters of wind-powered turbines until it was proposed to build the windmills on Cape Cod near his home. His reaction was, as the old saying goes, not on my backyard.
Not only are windmills noisy but they are also a danger to wildlife. Solar power may not be noisy but they, too, are disruptive to the environment they are placed in.
An electric power company in California has placed miles of solar panels in the Mojave Desert. This area is the home of the endangered desert tortoise and other desert creatures who make this area their home.
Also, take into account. The Philippines is continuously battered by typhoons. How would the solar and wind farms fare under these conditions? Remember, solar and wind farms have to be exposed to the elements in order to generate electric. Nuclear plants do not.
I am in favor of all forms of energy, be it from fossil fuels, nuclear, wind or solar powered. All of these electric producing energy forms have their drawbacks. I favor nuclear because if used nuclear rods were allowed to be reprocessed there would be virtually no waste.
Also, under proper supervision, the element of danger from nuclear energy is nonexistent. Your chances of being hit and getting killed while crossing a street is more than a million times greater than being nuked.
