A good read on understanding the people and the government of the Philippines is the writings of Dr. Paul Hutchcroft, ANU Professor. He wrote extensively on the effects of politics and economy to Philippine society.
Understanding this socio economics politics will at least give hope that a solution may be hard but doable in the light of the enlightened civil society who sometimes collectively gets together in demanding reform in our institutions.

it explains how the poor and enlightened civil society saw EDSA revolution to oust Estrada differ.
Thus the clamor by the poor now to bring due process back to our institution. A process they do not understand but used by their handlers to try to bring their champion who ignored them when he was in power according to this writings.
