I am curious as to who was that “lone Filipino guerilla spotted….”
On Jan 7, 1945, Sunday before noon, together with about 5 or 7 others at the Binmaley Catholic Church tower, who spotted the warships arrayed along the Lingayen Gulf, hung the American flag to signify that Japanese have retreated towards Manila.
It was ignored, bombing and strafing started at noon time of that day continuing to Jan. 9 when the Americans landed.
