The issue: the squatters, not the plant

Mr. Beltran;
The question is not whether the processing plant is legal or not. The squatters who live in Barangay Russia have no right to be there! That land is not theirs.
In a country of high unemployment don’t you think that a project such as the processing plant is for the public good?
Do you think that any of these squatters would tolerate anyone squatting or taking something that belongs to them? The right of property ownership, be it land owned by an individual or the city, is a fundamental right in a democracy.
The city should bulldoze the shanty town, build the plant and provide the much needed jobs. Too much attention is being given to the squatters (notice I don’t say poor because that word is being over used) and not enough is being said for those who will benefit from the jobs that will be created.
Am I heartless? No, just pragmatic.
