Wimbledon 1981 was not Bjorn Borg’s last Grand Slam. He played John McEnroe again in the finals of the 1981 US Open and lost.

Losing two consecutive title matches to McEnroe so devastated him he left the stadium before the post-game press conference.

He played one more tournament in 1982, the Monte Carlo Open, and lost in the quarterfinals to Yannick Noah.

He announced his retirement in 1983.
