Commemorating Juan de Silva in Pangasinan

The drumbeat to Pangasinan’s birth date, as advocated by Gonzalo Duque, should be taken with great care and concern. It should be done in the historical perspective backed-up by unshakeable facts.
We all know, Pangasinan, was created by a decree of the Governor General at that time, Juan de Silva. He was the governor from April, 1609 to April 19, 1616.
As I have posted before in this Forum, because of the uncertainty of Pangasinan’s assignation of existence, the founding period should be on the day when de Silva died, on April 19, 1616, to commemorate his death.
There will be no more fitting and honorable to celebrate Pangasinan’s birthday sans the political storm it would create, when the powers that be fight for seating positions.
And the idea thrown around about 1611, the founding of UST, is nothing, but a pun.
