Who watches the watcher?

Dear Mr .Garcia,
This is actually my second comment to your column. I wonder if the first one you actually received (hopefully you did).
Your piece on corrupt practices of media personnel may be short but it stings the skin of envelopment journalism in the country. I would like to believe that the level of media corruption exists everywhere – the digits differ.
Indeed, there are members of the media who can be bought literally and figuratively. That is why I decided to shift my young career work from the media to the corporate world before I become part of a dysfunctional, ego dominated industry.
Someone said, ‘who will watch the watchers’. If the media are the people’s chronicler of events and gatherer of information, who police their operations? Is the all mighty freedom of the press phrase abused in this country? Do media practitioners have special rights different from the ordinary citizens?
By the way, I practically started my serious journalism career in Sunday Punch as a proofreader sometime summer in 1997. Ms Joy would have my file.
All the best!
(Editor’s reply: We remember you Dante! All the best to you!)
