Mr. Ramos, why can we not make our objectives distinctly Filipino objectives? Why should we dream Taiwanese dreams? Why can we not dream our own Filipino dreams? Filipinos want also cleanliness not only in government but all that we desire to be clean. We want also goodness not only in economy but everything we desire to be good. In fact, we want better and, if possible, we want the best. Filipinos want also peace not war.

What you said in your post is just the good news. What about the bad news? The political parties in Taiwan had also their fair share of corruption scandals. In fact, their newly elected leader, Ma Ying-jeou, was himself indicted for allegedly misappropriating public funds when he was the mayor of Taipei.

Taiwan has bigger problems than the Philippines. For one thing, it is not a fully recognized country. Under constant threat by mainland China, they cannot proclaim their independence. Their constitution is not distinctly Taiwanese. Their political arena and system of government is much more complicated than Philippines. It is unclear if their system of government is a presidential or a parliamentary system of government. There has been talk of amending their constitution to finally resolve whether their system of government is to be a presidential system or a parliamentary system but it seems very difficult for them to make their constitution distinctly Taiwanese.

What we need to do is to improve all that we need to improve and to change all that we need to change. How can we improve if those who will be affected do not want us to improve for the better and those who want to do something good for the country and its people are the one being demolished or destroyed? How can we change for the better if the people are scared of change?

Just an opinion for us to ponder.
