Ed,

First off, I do not drink beer.

Really, $50.00 isn’t too much to watch the fight unless you are living on your monthly SSI check.

You might learn that the only scoring done that counts are those done by judges appointed by the state of Nevada. Manny Paquiao won and by doing so brought much joy and pride to the Philippines.

I sometimes wonder what happened to the minds of some expatriates who leave the Philippines. It seems that all they can do is complain about what is wrong in their former homeland while they sit in comfort of their apartments.

Some even look down on overseas workers who sacrifice many things so that their family can have a better life. I grew up poor so I can sympathize with and appreciate their plight.

Although I did not grow up in the Philippines, I have grown to respect the dignity with which the average Filipinos live their lives.

As I said before I grew up poor. I came to the U.S. as a six year old. We had nothing. Everything we had was lost in the war. My mom and dad worked hard and my Filipina mother taught me the values of hard work and dignity of labor. I was taught to respect anyone who tries to make an honest living.

I do not respect those who leave their former homeland only to criticize it from the comfort of their home 9,000 miles away. I was also taught to look at the bottle as half full not half empty.

Try seeing the good things that are being done in the Philippines and one might die in peace instead of going to one’s grave as a grouchy old man.
