To the People of Dagupan and Malasiqui:
Recently I was privileged and honored to have visited Dagupan as a member of the FANA medical/surgical/dental mission January 2008. I am at a loss to find the words to describe the wonder of this experience. The people of the Philippines have touched my heart and soul.
I wish to express my greatest regard and respect for the medical professionals of the province of Pangasinan, doctors, nurses and student nurses of the finest caliber. Without them, the mission’s success would have suffered. I am very proud to have served with all of them. Their compassion, professionalism and medical skills are an example for all medical practitioners to follow.
I also wish to express my gratitude and heartfelt THANK YOU to the Dagupan Police
Force, the security marshals and the SWAT team that were assigned to our mission group. Without the efforts of your Mayor of Dagupan and police chief of Dagupan, head marshal and Head of SWAT, the Mayor of Malasiqui, Alfonso Soriano, the Police Department of Malasiqui and those whose names I have missed mentioning, it would have been difficult to relax enough to work hard for the people, unwind after long days of surgery (I was in charge of the minor surgery for 2 days in Dagupan and 2 days in Malasiqui), AND enjoy the people and city.I do not have the names of all the members of the security team that guided us, kept us safe, and helped create so many beautiful memories. This is my loss.
While in Dagupan, I was able to contact my family in Canada and reassure them of my safety and the joy I felt in helping the people of area. This was reassuring to them and allowed my children to continue on without having to worry about their mom. For this peace allowed to my children, I am forever grateful.
Special thanks to Chief of Police Dionicio Borromeo, SPO2 Gregorio F. Glaveria and his partner Arnold, the Head Marshal (who found new meaning to the word stress –his was sometimes very high), the SWAT team, all of the officers (Dagupan & Malasiqui) and the marshals who not only provided security, but also had fun with us and served their community and people by ensuring the FANA Medical / Surgical Mission’s success. The strength of character and dedication to duty was demonstrated was far beyond that of just doing the job.
Mayor Fernandez and Mayor Soriano, thank you for welcoming me to your fine cities and allowing me the privilege to aid the health care needs of the people of the province of Pangasinan. I look forward to maintaining a connection with your communities.
Sincerely,
Deanna Borshuk, R.N.
