With political will, nothing is impossible

San Fabian, a coastal town, about 10 kilometers north of Dagupan City, has been home to me for some 12 years now. My home, located in barangay Nibaliw, is only about 50 meters away from the shoreline.

Many years back, our beach was a very nice place for locals and vacationers to enjoy and relax, because it was still quiet and decongested.

Now, it’s thickly dotted with ugly, stinking sheds, loud karaoke bars, and concrete structures, which seemingly, are standing on government-owned land. In other words, the owners are illegal squatters.

Illegal squatting is widespread in almost every community across the nation, and most city or town mayors would not dare lay a finger on this sticky issue because of its political and social implications. But to turn a blind eye to this problem only creates more compounding problems.

I hope Mayor Libunao, before his term ends, would do the same as to what’s being done along the shoreline of Dagupan City by Mayor Alipio Fernandez.

With political will, nothing is impossible.
