The issue of Pangasinan’s founding is as murky like the waters of Pantal, if we believe what these people are tattling about.

I will have to disagree forcefully, with this well-known-historian from San Carlos City, Professor Rosario Mendoza-Cortes, on her claim; Pangasinan was founded by Governor-General Gonzalo de Ronquillo in 1611.

This year 1611 is right. I beg to disagree with Gonzalo Duque on his, “Hep, hep, ompano ibaga yon kaya pala labay nen Gonzalo ya’y topic ta kangaranan to’y “creator” Gonzalo de Ronquillo”. Close.

The name of the 4th Spanish Governor-General was Gonzalo Ronquillo de Peñaloza. He was the top dog from April, 1580 to April 10, 1583, the year he croaked.

The Spanish Governor-General, the 14th in succession, when Pangasinan was founded in 1611 . . . for historical clarification . . . was Juan de Silva who ran rough shod over the helpless Filipinos from April 1609 until his extinction on April 19, 1616.

Juan de Silva was the 14th instead of 15th, because the 11th Pedro Bravo de Acuña took a day off on some wild and crazy expedition to the Moluccas.

From June 24, 1606 to June 15, 1608 the government was taken over by the AUDIENCIA on military and political affairs.

From June 15, 1608 to Easter of April, 1609, Rodrigo de Vivero took charge as the 13th Governor-General on a long line of Spanish conquistadors until the Yankee who came and whopped their asses.

However, GONZALO is a medieval name GUNDISALVUS, a Latin form of Germanic name compost of the GUND . . . for war and destruction.
