His worst nightmare

It’s the clout, stupid! That’s the ringing annotation hammered into the head of Mayor Haniani of Alaminos, when Ramon Guico Jr., the godfather of Binalonan and the enforcer of choice of Arroyo – give marching orders to the local Mafioso, to oppose the airport and appearing to recommend an alternative but Alaminos.

What goes around comes around! It was thought, the funding was sealed when Arroyo declared Alaminos being included in her grand design for Northern Luzon.

With that flattery espoused before the joint session of Congress, Mayor Haniani was assured of its delivery until Espin-off muddled the waters favoring Mayor Velasco of Santa Barbara.

It’s a known fact, he’s close to Velasco. Who the hell is Colonel Klink to Erwin Rommel?

Enter Tabacalera Fidel, consigliore of the outfit and uncle of Alaminos’ variegated mayor. A twist of Espin-off’s arm, he sold out Velasco and went singing to high heavens the right of Alaminos.

Mayor Velasco was laughed-out . . . left behind not only fending for himself, but holding an empty bag.

Like a shark, Mayor Guico smelled blood and the millions on the table for the taking. There’s no way he’ll let Mayor Haniani enjoy the blessings of Arroyo specially his politics is something to be desired. What are cousins for, anyway?

To get his point across, the muscle of Pangasinan Mayor’s League was unleashed – a veiled treat – a covered up intimidation on Arroyo for emphasis and believability.

On this issue, Mayor Haniani’s dream of an airport will be his worst nightmare, and with it, the ferry system that could bring him, Mayors Alipa of Dagupan and Pedrosa of San Fernando to their watery graves.
