Tandang Sora Voice of Pangasinan,
I wonder what my great grandfather would have said if he saw what I saw when I was in Bonuan Dagupan City three weeks ago.
The many kids that troop to our car to beg when we stop for gas at the crossing, the kids that play in the streets because there are no playgrounds, the shanties that line up in every sitio.
He probably would have tried to take some of them home or given them food during his time. I thought of it, but with the overwhelming numbers I just feel hopeless. So I hope your prayers are answered.
The government, corrupt or not, could not do it all. Government officials and the church will always have positions above the peoples they serve. Most of them are detached from the environment that they may feel like they are in New Jersey like me.
History always has written of civic minded people who had assisted government and church when both could not do it alone. Now is the time to help no matter what our motives are to assist our people.
For those like me who had not visited for ten years- the equation had changed, we all need to get involved NOW while we still can.
