Promises as publicity stunts

The fight against the NPAs is as hollow as the fight against Jueteng. The government can’t just eradicate the problem by simply stating that it intends or promises to fight this problem by staging a rally complete with mock up fury.
The publicity stunt it creates is becoming a joke. It promises an all out war against the NPAs or against Jueteng or against Drug lords. It riles people’s emotions, it uplifts people’s morale, it offers hope, for at least a good day and a half … at most. No sooner than the effigy has turned to soot, that the government is back to business as usual … again.
How long has the NPAs been around? How long has jueteng been around? How long has the government been promising to do something, anything, about these problems?
These atrocities are imbedded IN the system. The government cannot fix these problems without addressing the whole picture first. Why is it that these young, bright minds easily succumb to the calling of the NPA? What is it that this organization is offering that makes college students want to leave their love ones and into the bosom of civilization’s most sought after group of outlaws?
Surely, these people, misguided as they seem, do not enlist for the sheer pleasure of committing murders and other atrocities.
It is frightening to read about the number of people being murdered not just by the NPAs, or by the “murder for hire” goons, but even by the neighborhood thugs. And the problem seems to be escalating with no end in sight.
For how could there be an end in sight when the government itself makes it so damned easy to commit these crimes.
